Dragonz aim is to provide a secure and nurturing environment where students of any age (from 4 to 95!) find the encouragement and support they need to excel in martial arts and personal growth. Classes are held five days a week with special “family fun” events spread throughout the year. All classes focus on physical fitness, self-defence and life skills. Our staff are skilled at working with an individual’s personal strengths to build self-esteem along with a healthy body and positive outlook. Our classes include a variety of people who face challenges, both physical and developmental. The results speak for themselves! Over the years Dragonz Martial Artz Centre has been instrumental in changing many people’s lives in a positive and exciting way! Under the esteemed leadership of Master Marvin Prashad, the SWAT Leaders program thrives as a beacon of excellence within the dojo community.
Welcome to the Special Winning Attitude Team (SWAT), where students embark on a journey towards leadership and mastery. Invited students step into the role of Junior Leaders, taking their first stride towards shaping the future of our dojo. Guided by the principles of discipline and respect, SWAT members stand as shining examples within our martial arts family.
As part of SWAT, students embrace the responsibility of assisting our main class instructors during training sessions. With precision and dedication, they showcase required moves and stances, inspiring their peers to reach new heights of skill and determination. Beyond the mat, SWAT members uphold the dojo’s spirit by maintaining cleanliness and orderliness, ensuring that our training space reflects the excellence we strive for.
Join us in cultivating not only martial prowess but also leadership qualities that extend far beyond the dojo walls. With Master Prashad’s guidance, SWAT Leaders embody the true essence of commitment, teamwork, and unwavering integrity. Together, let us continue to elevate our standards and celebrate the winning attitude that defines our dojo community.
Students may be invited to this is the next step in becoming a dojo instructor, students must be learning all 3 main disciplines being Karate (Kata and Kumite), Taekwondo (forms, sparring and board breaking) and Kubudo (bo staff, sai’s and nunchucks, etc), here students will start to learn how to instruct a class with Master Marvin. They always lead by example, be present in all required training classes, must be on the competition team, and competing at all provincial and regional tournaments whenever possible. These students must be shown the same respect as Master Marvin at all times.
As students develop and train their skills in all 3 main disciplines, being Karate (Kata and Kumite), Taekwondo (forms, sparring and board breaking) and Kubudo (Bo staff, Sai’s and Nunchucks, etc), they must be on the competition team and be competing in all provincial and regional tournaments whenever possible. Be present in all required training classes, Master Marvin may invite you to join the Masters club, This honor is shown by students wearing a Red Dragonz Gi, students are taught how to instruct all class types and will be the main Sensei for the younger classes and as a bonus, special monthly one-on-one training, these students must be shown the same respect as Master Marvin at all times.
Once a student achieves a level of 1st Kyu or 1st Gup and is preparing to test for 1st Dan you may be invited to join the Black belt club, this honor is shown by students wearing a Black Dragonz Gi, These students are competing in all provincial and regional tournaments whenever possible. These students are now teaching classes on their own, but still get special monthly one-on-one training with Master Marvin. these students must be shown the same respect as Sensei Marvin at all times.
Meet Kristen White, our esteemed Junior Instructor at Dragonz Martial Arts Centre East. With a journey rooted in discipline and determination, Kristen embodies the essence of martial arts excellence.
A dynamic force on the mats, Kristen holds a distinguished purple belt in Shotokan Karate and a blue belt in Taekwondo. Her martial arts odyssey began in the esteemed Wado Style of Karate, where she honed her skills before seamlessly transitioning into the realms of Shotokan and Taekwondo, showcasing her adaptability and commitment to mastery.
Kristen’s pursuit of excellence extends beyond the dojo walls, as she represented Team Nova Scotia in Kata, on the national stage in July 2024. Her accolades precede her, reigning as the current Provincial Gold and Atlantic Canada Bronze medalist in Kata within her age group. Moreover, her mastery extends to the art of Kobudo (Weapons), where she clinched the coveted gold at the esteemed Yarmouth Cup in 2023 and 2024
A trailblazer in her own right, Kristen made history as the inaugural member of the Masters Club at Dragonz MAC East, a testament to her unwavering commitment and exceptional skill set. However, beyond her personal triumphs, Kristen’s heart lies in nurturing the next generation of martial artists. With boundless enthusiasm, she imparts her wisdom and expertise to the young Dragonz in the Lil Dragonz and Kickin Kidz classes, instilling in them not just the techniques of martial arts, but also the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.
Kristen’s dedication and passion for the martial arts are not only evident in her accomplishments but also in the indelible impact she leaves on the Dragonz Family. As a beacon of inspiration and a true motivator, Kristen embodies the spirit of excellence, elevating both herself and those around her to new heights of achievement.
Head Instructor and Owner Master Sensei Marvin Prashad is a 3th Degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and has also trained in Muai Thai, Kickboxing and Jujitsu, with a unique approach to martial arts instruction. The discipline and work ethic are there, but there is also a desire to bond with and understand the individual needs of every one of his students, no matter the age. On paper he is a martial arts instructor but in reality he is a mentor and friend to scores of people throughout the area. Sir Marvin's strength as a teacher is his ability to draw out the best in all of his students. Children who have struggled at other martial arts schools have thrived at Dragonz, benefiting from Sir Marvin's tireless dedication and devotion to excellence.
